Pantun

Pantun’s are poems of a Malaysian tradition. Conventionally, the second and fourth line of the previous stanza become the first and third line of the next stanza but I have adapted this to maintain freedom of form. In this way, it is interconnected and continuous, much like the spontaneous music that inspired this piece.

listen now to the fingerprint of my soul

we wave together

the rhythm of our words

in a sonorous heartbeat

weave together

melodic streams of me

each face absorbed in their tune

that twinkles from their hands

looping my melody

into scattered stars

grazing ears is the Simongi

the sound of breath of life

strolling stars scatter hums

across complicated puddles

vibrations float through me

the songs rise from our surfaces

we are paddling complications

creating concentric circles

reaching outwards

to give harmonic nourishment

concentrated circles

are shorelines in circumference

the tidal pull of music

keeps creativity tasting orange sweet
